Proposed 2012 road course series discussion

This new thread is for all discussion concerning the organizing of the new proposed 2012 road course series. Any ideas or comments concerning this construction of the schedule, possible tracks or mods, etc, should be posted here. I figured it would be better to do this in it's own thread rather than continuing it in the completed short track series thread.

Daytona RC: Great choice, I like this newer updated version myself. http://www.btr.clanbtf.net/Nr2k3/Downloads/Tracks/RC_Tracks/Daytona_RC_FRL.zip

Atwood Race Park: Never heard of it, can you link us to a download ?

Hog Mountain V2: Is there 2 versions ? The version I have is a blast but i thought it more for rally or just for fun. Link?

Lime Rock MTN: a mountain version ? pretty sweet, can you link this one to? I'm only familiar with Lime Rock Twist.

My additions to the list.

Daytona_RC_FRL w/TPTCC
hockenheim_4.90m
norisrng
bathurst_V2.0
nurburgring_1970 with the nurbshadows fixes
laguna_05_v2 w/AD67
Lime Rock Twist
Montreal_2007 w/CTS physics
Mexico w/CTS physics
Riverside_1970
Riverside modern

Watkins Glen: Classic "got a have". But in the spirit of true road courses how about wgboot?
Road America: A must have track !!!

Here is a link to all the tracks I have installed on the RC server at this point.

Re: Proposed 2012 road course series discussion

Just wanna comment on a few things discussed by McTodd and DS in the previous post.

Concerning the Watkins Glen track with the boot section... I was kinda thinking that we'd just stick with the nr2k3 stock version of Watkins Glen and use it for racing one of the CTS mods. Some tracks just won't run CTS physics mods very well, like Laguna Seca for example. Just too many tight turns to making fast and exciting racing possible. CTS steers like a damn sluggish Greyhound bus, and is harder to get hauled down to the appropriate speed for making tighter turns. Unless you play it super cautious and start braking early, you end up locking the brakes up and sliding face first off the track, or you spin out in the middle of the turn. So if we're gonna keep the CTS mods, we need to be racing shorter tracks with fewer turns and wider turns. I haven't tested out the boot version of Watkins Glen, but chances are it'll still be suitable for CTS. Post me a link to it and I'll give it a whirl.

Since DS insisted on using Laguna Seca, I've been forcing myself recently to run some testing laps there just to get the hang of it... and I gotta admit, once you get the hang of it, it's a really fun track to drive with a PTA mod.

I've also been wondering if anyone else would rather race nothing but PTA mods and scrap the CTS ones. So far we've got two PTA mods, TPTCC and AD67. I'm gonna try to get ahold of the Project Wildfire TransAm mod and see what it looks like. I'm not insisting on it or anything, just wanted to know what others preferred. The more I play around with PTA physics mods, the more I like how quick and responsive the steering is and how the cars handle. Like I said, when you go from PTA to CTS, it just feels like you're steering a big long school bus or something. I don't hate it so much that I'd refuse to race it though, it's got it's own fun qualities about it. The CTS handling is probably more accurate to the old 70's muscle cars anyway, those things were built like heavy-assed German Panzer tanks and handled like the heavy cars they were.

As far as tracks go, I think we're gonna stick with only 12 tracks for 12 total races. So far the track picks set in stone (with probable mods in parentheses) are the following:

1. Road Atlanta (cts)
2. Watkins Glen (cts) (*w/ boot: up for further debate)
3. Mexico City (cts)
4. Infineon (cts or pta: up for futher debate)
5. Laguna Seca (pta)
6. Daytona RC (pta)

What may end up having to happen is that we don't get to use every mod equally. For example, we might run 4 races with TPTCC, 4 race with AD67, 2 races with GN69, and 2 races with SNSC70. Anyway, it's gonna take a little bit of discussion and testing to figure this all out. But I'd like to have it all worked out and ready to go by the time August gets here. If it can happen sooner, all the better. I figure if it gets started at least by sometime in August, we can get the series completed by the time the other 2 series end in November as well, at which point we can enjoy the off-season and the holidays with no races to worry about.

Oh yeah! emoticon Just got done giving the PWF TransAm mod (hi-res) a test drive. Love it! It's really good looking. Great looking interiors, great looking well made car models. The download I got that installed the mod also stuck a shortcut on the desktop that loads up a front-end menu for the mod that allows you to select either your current engine sound files or the mods own engine sound files, no copy and pasting .DAT files or .WAV files for mod engine sounds like the AD67 mod. It's pretty similar to the TPTCC mod, modern high-powered cars like the Corvette, Mustang, Jaguar, and Dodge Viper. The cars are highly detailed with no tires showing through the fenders like you get with a couple of the car models in TPTCC and AD67.

I'm kinda torn about the idea of tossing out CTS mods. I've already taken the time to paint up a few cars for the CTS mods and now I may not get to even use them, but I gotta admit, I think I like driving the PTA physics mods on road courses much better than CTS. I'm starting to think I like the idea of an all PTA mods series. Anyone opposed to that idea?

Gawd, looks like I'm posting to myself here, but I've had pretty much all day to just do nothing but dick around online and goof off, so I've been trying to figure out what to do about mods before I start going proposing another 6 tracks to finish off the list of 12 tracks. Here are a couple of possibilities:

I DEFINITELY want to include this PWF TransAm mod. Give it quick test for yourself, I'm sure you'll agree that it's an EXCELLENT mod. In my opinion, it definitely beats the TPTCC and AD67 mods. At first glance, it looks to be some terrific modelling work with lots of attention to detail, which is pretty cool. The car set that comes with the mod is really well done, some really good paint work on them. I've already uploaded the hi-res version installer for it to the downloads section, so grab a copy, install it, test it out, and see what you think.
http://www.btr.clanbtf.net/Nr2k3/Downloads/Series%20MODs/pwf_pta.exe

I'm thinking of maybe doing 2 races with the GN69 (cts), 2 races with the SNSC70 (cts), and 8 races with a mixture of the TransAm, AD67, and TPTCC pta mods. Or perhaps we could toss out the 2 cts mods and just 4 tracks with each of the 3 pta mods. On one hand, like I said, I love the pta mods, but then again, I like the cts mods too. Don't really know what to do here. Any opinions on this?

Honestly i'de prefere to just toss out the SN stockers and have 3 races with gn69.

I would like the watkins glen to have the boot with PTA and the third cts race at montreal.

The trans am mod is very pretty, but in all honesty i think the TPTCC mod is better at racing, plus it has the Ford-GT, Trans Am doesn't. I'de like to race both myself.

Also would like to see Riverside

That would work. We could do 3 races per mod, make it nice and even.

That might work. Although I was kinda reserving the stock Watkins Glen track (w/o boot) for a cts mod race based on the fact that I've already run a ton of practice laps on it using cts and it seems to be well suited for a heavier handling mod like GN69. Even Road Atlanta would honestly be better with pta since a couple of the turns you gotta really slow down to hit right. I do like the boot version of Watkins Glen, but unless I can find another track more suitable for cts, the boots gonna get closed off.

So far from the few test laps I've turned using cts AND pta... I HATE montreal_2007. Too slow and too many annoying little S curve doglegs in it. This track just pisses me off. I thought Laguna Seca was bad. This track makes Laguna Seca look like Talladega. If it's okay with you, I'm gonna toss this one in the toilet and flush twice just to make sure I never see it again.

Also, I think Riverside_1970 would work great with AD67. Really no tight turns to it at all. Would work great with a cts mod I bet, but I think it'd go better with ad67 since is a classic track. We'll add that one to the list for sure.
