Re: BTR 2012 race results and discussion

I've been around, just ain't been available at race time usually. Tuesday night I probably could've raced, but I've been out of practice with the wheel for so long that I would've wanted at least one day prior to practice up and get familiar with the feel of it again before joining a race with anyone else.

Dunno what's going on with the servers. Not long after I ducked out to take care of things around here, I noticed some message on the nr2k3 page about the server IP changing. I haven't been on IRC to talk much since I took a break either, so I dunno what's going on at all. I think I remember DS talking about perhaps needing to find another job and perhaps that new job wouldn't allow for him to admin or attend the races anymore, so maybe that's whats going on. I'll try to get ahold of DS in the BTR IRC channel at some point soon and see what the story is.

In the meantime, everyone should try to check back here maybe once a week to see if anything new is posted. Like I said, maybe sometime in September I can get enough time to get back to racing regularly and perhaps pick up the schedule at the current point and continue on through to the end of it (just ignore the races we missed I guess). If that ain't possible to do, then maybe we can at least just do some single races for fun once or twice a week with no points and no standings to worry about until next year when we get a new schedule. That's only "IF" there even IS a next year, dunno yet.

But if we do, I'm gonna recommend that we shorten up the schedule. I don't think having a full years schedule for 10 or 11 months of races is really worth it to do it anymore. This is the second year in a row that !@#$ has kinda petered out at the end after a strong start, so maybe just doing a 4 or 5 month schedule at a time would be more beneficial.

Anywho, like I said, just keep checking back here, and if DS doesn't post an update, I'll try to as soon as I can when I find something out.

Well I would love to resume the series if there is enough interest in it. We haven't missed but a few races. The chase would be beginning soon anyways. I fully intended to go all the way with it this year. But things just wasn't working in its direction the last few weeks of it before I suspended it. Drivership dropped to where we was in the very first of the season, alot of times i leave work and feel guilty when I really should stay to finish projects etc but i leave anyway to see the race through, which I dont mind, i enjoy this, but not when only one or two people show up like it was in February. I took a vacation and it appeared no one attempted to get the actual race in. I asked about it and none replied. The next race was Watkins Glen, figures everyone would show for that one, i mean its Watkins Glen for crying out loud. But NONE showed except for 2 SMSers i've never seen and i had to kick one for wrecking on purpose then the other one bailed. That pretty much told me the season was over at that point and that i needed to get back to working more and do other things. But still, i love racing, i'"IF" there is enough interest i would love to re-open the series and finish it up. PLus i was also looking forward to a wounderful RC series too.

Re: BTR 2012 race results and discussion

I should be able to head up a road course series starting in late September or early October. It'll probably just be a little 8 race series instead of 12 or 16 like we discussed before. Might even have to squeeze it down to a 6 race series if it starts too far into October. I'm not sure, but I think doing races around Thanksgiving to Christmas might not be the best idea, people getting busy with family and shopping and all that, attendance might not be so hot around that time. Then again, maybe it'd be fun to do some races around the holidays too, I dunno. I tell ya what though... I'll get my !@#$ in high gear around here and try to get all this work done. Would be great if I could be clear of it by the middle of September. After that, I could probably have a schedule all plotted out in a day or two, already got enough track picks, it would just be a matter of picking 2 per mod, should be quick and easy. Then maybe throw up a 1-week advance notice on the webpage and get it underway quickly. After that, if we decide we wanna continue on with more than 8 races and bump it up to 12, I think I can probably add on more dates without screwing up the standings or anything.

Speaking of Watkins Glen... I probably could've showed up for that one, but I was out of practice and didn't want to get in anyones way. Hell, I figured the league was still going strong and no one would miss me. If I would've known attendance was down, I would've said !@#$ it raced anyway. If anyone else wants to pick the CUP and CTS seasons back up, go ahead, maybe I'll be able to join if I'm not busy. But I'm pretty sure that by late Sept and Oct I'll be sitting here without a thing to do but watch my toenails grow. Was supposed to be getting married this fall or winter, but that probably ain't gonna happen until next spring. Don't even think I'm gonna hit Biketoberfest in FL this year. Should be free as a bird and bored as hell this winter.

Yes i'm here.
Currently looking for a direction to go with BTR.
I haven't yet decided wether or not to get the servers back up, I haven't come up with a good direction. My time has become so very limited. Would love for one of our trusted members like yourself, Focalor, or McTodd to mabey take it in a positive direction.

Crapola. A month late seeing this. Wish I would've checked back sooner.

But yeah, I've been starting to get a hankering for some racing again. I think Busche has too. I'd like to get a small schedule together for the road course series we were talking about at the end of the summer. Also wouldn't mind a regular old NASCAR series. If I were gonna be the one to create the calendar for it, I'd probably break it up into parts, like maybe a 20 to 24 race calendar with 1 (or 2) week breaks thrown in once every 4 to 5 weeks.

I'm sure I could take over admin duties if DS is gonna be busy more often than not, that's not a problem as far I can tell at the moment. But if I were gonna start working on a schedule and start putting this together, it would helpful to know what nights of the week would be better for people, most of all DS since it sounds like he has the least flexible schedule, wanna make sure I don't cut anyone out.

A few ideas:

For starters, the road course series (which would probably only be 8 to 12 races, 1 race per week, off week after every 4 races) I'd probably do like the Shootout Series and have that on Saturday nights, possibly Friday nights depending on what days we do other races. Dont want to put races on consecutive nights unless I absolutely HAVE to.

For the NASCAR Cup series, I think the schedule including off weeks should last no longer than 6 to 8 months. Personally, after so many races and so many months, I start getting burned out on it and showing up for races starts seeming like more of a chore than something fun. Maybe shortening up the schedule somewhat and adding predictable off weeks would help alleviate that. Just my opinion. ALSO... I know DS has typically followed the current years NASCAR schedule to base the BTR Cup Series schedule off of, but I'd like to mix it up just a tad. Maybe vote it down to the 20 best tracks on the NASCAR 2013 schedule. And IN ADDITION to that, I'd like to pepper in a few NASCAR nostalgia tracks and mods into the same schedule as well just to keep it interesting. I suppose the idea would be to have 3 consecutive weeks of current nascar mod racing, and the week just before the off week every 4 to 5 races, have a special nostalgia race using tracks like 1970 Talladega or whatever along with an old 1965 or 1970 Nascar mod.

As for trucks... I'd be fine with leaving it out if no one is super interested in it. If it's wanted, I can put together a schedule for it I suppose. I'd recommend doing the same things for the trucks series as the cup series, shortening the schedule to mirror the cup series as much as possible and everyone voting on the tracks they'd most like to race.

Probably what I'd do is post up a list in a special poll thread somewhere and then everyone would get to vote for 20 of however many total tracks are listed. The tracks with the most votes get put on a list of tracks to be placed on the calendar, and from there I'd just try to map it out to where it would chronologically follow the actual 2013 Nascar season as close as possible. For example... week 1... DAYTONA, A MUST. You can't start a Nascar series without a Daytona 500, that would just be complete and utter heresy. The ghost of Dale Earnhardt would put sugar in our gas tanks!
